The Power Struggle: It Begins at Home
Those in power, who revere other deities, often revel in their authority, relishing the sound of their own voice while demanding godlike reverence from those around them. They perceive God as a threat and will go to great lengths to prevent you from genuinely experiencing the freedom that comes with His word of truth.
“And Yeshua said to them, “Timeless truth I speak to you: Unless you eat the body of The Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in yourselves.” (ARA John 6:53)
Rest assured that, in the realm of divine authority and rightful standing, they hold no power over you.
Gideons Commission
First, Gideon received a direct command from the angel of the Lord to tear down his father's altar of Balaam, and to cut down the tree of the goddess Asherah, which is beside it. (The definition of Ashera(h) = "groves (for idol worship)" a Babylonian (Astarte)-Canaanites believed she was a goddess (of fortune and happiness), the supposed consort of Baal).
It was quite clear that Gideon's commission began at home. He had to break the stronghold off his own family before he could tackle the stronghold off his nation. Similarly, before the body of Christ can bring deliverance to the nations, it must first eliminate the false altars in their hearts and lives. Despite his fear, Gideon acted with the help of 10 servants and tore down the altar. They accomplished their mission in the dead of night, knowing the potential consequences. The next day, the townspeople discovered their destroyed altar and insisted his father bring him out so that they could execute him, yet Gideon's father, Joash declared, 'If Baal is a god, let him fight his own battles and defend his own altar!'
Imagine standing in truth and having everyone around you turn against you!
Luke 12:51 says, “Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? I say to you, no, but division.” 52 “From now on there shall be five in one house who are divided, three against two and two against three.” 53“For a father will be divided against his son and son against his father, mother against her daughter and daughter against her mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
At first, Gideon struggled and questioned why this was happening to them. However, in the end, he remained steadfast in his faith and took action.
Drawing Inspiration from Gideon's Story
Let's take a look at how Gideon, transitions into the warrior God created him to be. When God approached Gideon, He told him to use the strength he already had to save Israel from the Midianites. In the book of Judges chapter 6, the angel of Yahweh came to the village of Oprah and sat down under the oak tree that belonged to Joash a man of the clan of Abiezer. His son Gideon was secretly threshing some wheat in a wine press so that the Midianites would not see him.
Until next time…
