Cynthia Mergen is a Christian writer, teacher, speaker, and inner healing and breakthrough minister whose life carries a powerful testimony of God’s healing and redemption. Having walked through profound loss, relational and spiritual abuse, and a life-threatening battle with illness, she writes and ministers from places where she has personally encountered the restoring love of God. Her story has deepened both her compassion for others and her conviction that no broken place is beyond His reach.
Cynthia has a particular heart for those who hunger for more of God and are willing to move beyond surface-level faith. Through honest writing, biblical teaching, and words shaped in the hidden place, she calls others to come up higher, not fear the deep, and embrace the refining journey of becoming holy, whole, and free. Her desire is to help people recognize God’s voice, encounter His presence, and grow into mature disciples of Jesus whose lives bear witness to His transforming power.
Her ministry is especially attentive to those who have experienced trauma, grief, abuse, manipulation, spiritual control, or the loss of their voice and identity. With wisdom, compassion, and truth, Cynthia helps create spaces where people can be seen, safely confront what has held them captive, receive healing, and rediscover who they are in Christ.
Cynthia is the founder of Carbon Lights, a local marketplace gathering devoted to cultivating mature disciples of Jesus who carry His light into everyday life. Rooted in truth, formed in community, and committed to living the Kingdom, Carbon Lights reflects her heart for authentic fellowship, spiritual formation, healing, and discipleship. Her desire is not to create another division within the Church, but to help restore the understanding that the gathered church and those called into the marketplace are not separate expressions competing for legitimacy—they are part of one Body, carrying one Kingdom assignment. Cynthia longs to see the Church move beyond man-made divisions and limiting traditions into the relational, Spirit-led design revealed in the Book of Acts: a mature and functioning Ekklesia in which every gift and assignment is recognized, equipped, and released. It is a people wholly surrendered to the rule and reign of God, living the prayer of Jesus as a way of life: “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
She also serves as an inner healing, breakthrough, and deliverance facilitator with Sent Ones Ministries, working alongside founders Josh and Maria Adkins to help others experience lasting healing, freedom, and transformation.
Cynthia is also a contributing author to Paper Crowns, Volume 1. In her chapter, “Breaking Into Brokenness,” she shares part of her personal journey through suffering and surrender—and the healing, faith, and redemption she discovered in God.
Beyond writing and ministry, Cynthia is retired and deeply appreciates the simple joys of life. She loves baking and sharing sourdough bread, traveling through small historic towns, and taking in the beauty of the changing seasons—especially autumn. She makes her home in the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania with her husband, Tom, and their fun-loving dog, Jackson. Her beloved niece, Stefanee, and Stefanee’s dog, Penny, are also a treasured part of their close-knit family and shared life.
Author of Breaking Into Brokenness, Cynthia shares her inspiring testimony of finding faith, healing, and hope after battling severe illness during the 2020 pandemic. Her eBook offers comfort to those facing loss, tragedy, and grief through God's love.
